QuakeData Overview

QuakeData is all about seismicity - earthquakes, volcanoes etc.

The program is designed to collect data from (mainly) the USGS and store it in a database so that you can display on screen, and also right click on an earthquake to go and view the spot in Google Earth. Very shortly you will be able to select several earthquakes and view them as a sequence in Google Earth.

The other main function it performs is to enable you to transform seismograph data into waveform files so you can ‘hear’ the earthquakes.

Because your browsing is integrated into the program, at least for the first page of a site, you may not need to go outside the program to delve into the world of earthquakes and volcanoes.

QuakeData uses a database which can be either it's own built in SQL Server Compact database or it can use a full SQL Server 2005, or 2008 database.

You can see the guide to the program and information on the settings here:

A very brief guide to the functions in QuakeData

We have provided links to several useful sites in the program, and you can also add your own links as you find them. (See settings for information on this.)

To get the program please go to Downloads. There you will aslo find a link to a few earthquake sound files.

Periodically we update the data file for SQL Compact which contains all the data we have collected on 1.0+ magnitude earthquakes from 02/02/2009 onwards

You can download the current file, which runs to mid day on 26/01/2009 (UK) or 01/26/2009 (US) using this link. This zip file is approximately 3 MB in size and expands to 12+ MB.

Please email support if you require the SQL Server 2005/8 version.
